Thompson, chairman of the Sun Fun Festival Council, has announced that
the U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be performing at the 52nd Annual
Sun Fun Festival this year. This will be the Thunderbird’s first
appearance on the Grand Strand since 1995. They will be performing in
the air show during the Sun Fun Festival. Civilian performers in the air
show will include the AeroShell Aerobatic Team, Eric Beard’s Russian
Thunder, Gary Ward Aerobatics and Steve Coan Sailplane Aerobatics which
features the world’s fastest self-launching sailplane.
The Thunderbirds perform in air shows throughout the year both at home and in other countries as part of their mission to support Air Force recruiting. The Sun Fun Festival will be held from May 29th thru June 2nd. The theme of this year’s five-day festival is “Celebrate Family”. Other events scheduled are: Miss Sun Fun Pageant, Miss Bikini Wahine Pageant, the North South Cat Dash sailboat regatta, and Sun Fun Kids Fair. For the sport’s enthusiast, there will also be the Sun Fun Beach Run and an oceanfront Volleyball Tournament. Contests include: sand castle building, bubblegum blowing, watermelon eating, beach relays and many others. Return
