The Myrtle Beach

|
|
| As Plans continue to not unfold about what is to become of the
Myrtle Beach downtown area in light of the closing of the almost
sixty-year-old theme park known to all as The Pavilion, the city
of Myrtle Beach is suing Burroughs and Chapin, for the beach area,
in front of the Pavilion. Most if not all business owners in this
area support the idea of a larger and more modernized boardwalk
here and the city argues for the right to get started. At this time
Burroughs and Chapin do not own this section of coastline. They
do not pay taxes on it however; they have been involved with business
franchises on this particular section of shoreline. As quoted in
the Sun News on April 15, 2006 "It's just so there will be
no dispute about who owns what," Kruea said. "As lawsuits
go, this is about as friendly as they get." Mark Kruea is the
city spokesman and the city is being very upfront in their reasons
for this type of action at this time. As also made public in the
Sun News The lawsuit states that the city "believes Burroughs
and Chapin may claim that the public beach in question is owned
by them and the public beach may be utilized as a private beach
to accommodate their future development plans." Since
Burroughs and Chapin are not disclosing what their "future
development plans" are, the city of Myrtle Beach is doing all
that it can to protect smaller local businesses and the guests that
honor us by choosing to spend their Holidays with us year after
year. We’ll keep you posted or log on to Myrtle
Beach Online the website for the Sun News. |
