With
interesting shops, great cuisine, and trees draped in Spanish moss,
Pawleys Island is a step off of the beaten path and into a day of
peace. A great contrast to the entire hubbub that is Myrtle Beach.
Pawleys Island is known as the oldest vacation spot on the east
coast. As early as the 1700s, Rice Planters would bring their families
to spend summers in Pawleys. At this time it was due more to necessity
than pleasure, the planters had found the seashore to be a healthier
haven in the heat than by the rivers where the plantations were
located. The Island even has it's own civil war ghost,
the Greyman, who has been warning of bad weather for over a hundred
years. Rich in history, simple virtues and lack of pretense, there's
just good energy in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. |
