The Carolina Opry - Calvin Gilmore pioneered live theaters in Myrtle Beach when he opened The Carolina Opry, a music and comedy variety show, in 1986. Now in its 20th season, the show has won every top South Carolina tourism award including its highest, the prestigious Governor’s Cup, and Most Outstanding Attraction. Voted the Best Show and Best Place to take Out-Of-Towners year after year by readers of the Myrtle Beach Sun News, a Knight Ridder newspaper, it is the only show to be featured on NBC Nightly News, USA Today, Variety, The New York Times and CNN.
