The Low Country Chorus

Barbershop is one of the oldest forms of music in America. It started in barbershops where people just hung out and sometimes they sang.

Barbershop Harmony started to grow after 1877 with Thomas Edison's invention of the phonogram. The studios in that day were very small and anything sung or spoken had to be done directly into what was then called the horn. Today we call it the microphone. Barbershop quartets were perfect in this setting.

Phonogram companies began presenting competing quartets by the end of the 19th century.

The Low country Chorus is our own local Barbershop chorus. They perform all over the Grand Strand. You can see them in concert, performing over sixty shows a year. Their most well known concert is an annual show, which is coming soon and takes place on the third Saturday of every January at Myrtle Beach High School. Tickets are available online now just click Low Country Chorus to reserve your seats.
