The area we know as Georgetown, South Carolina was not successfully settled until 1726 and was named in honor of King George II. The area, known at the time for being an important international port which served the area's thriving rice plantations, is still home to several marinas catering to boaters on the Intercoastal Waterway.
The old docks along the waterfront have been converted into Harborwalk with an array of quaint and charming restaurants and shops. Every year in June, Georgetown hosts the Harborwalk festival. If you are in Myrtle Beach in June take a day out for an educational and fun family day in nearby Georgetown. There are a variety of guided historic tours to be enjoyed in the area as well as art shops and crafts people. |
