There is a license requirement to fish on the Grand Strand. In Horry county guests to the area can purchase a fourteen-day fishing license at many local sporting goods stores, bait and tackle shops, major retailers (Wal-Mart) and DNR offices. Bait and tackle shops are conveniently located on fishing piers all along the south strand. Also, if you're traveling south on Kings Hwy, you will find various bait and tackle shops along the way.
Piers are a great place to fish into the late hours of the night. Quiet fellowship and low lighting add to the comfort of fishing. A lot of the areas fish tend to come closer to the shore during the quieter nighttime hours to feed. You can usually also see several lanterns and beach chairs doting the sea line, as night time fishermen cast in from the shore. Shoreline casting is a bit more difficult then dropping in from the end of the pier and provides a fishing experience all it's own.
To catch an abundance of deep sea fish head over to Dick's Marina to take a deep sea fishing trip out into the Atlantic Ocean. This is where you are more likely to catch the larger fish.
For the best daytime fishing, fish the jetties along the Inlet at Huntington Beach State Park. This preserve offers a great fishing experience as well.
