Condo Sales Up From Last Year!

Real Estate Agents: 2004 Looks Good
Condo sales up from last year despite single-family home sales drop

Based on home and condominium sales statistics, you would think the 2004's first quarter sales were nearly on par with the same period last year. Asking local real estate agents, you hear stories of record sales and fast-paced business.

"We had one of the best, probably the best January and February we've ever had," said one local agent. “Condo sales from buyers who want a second home for this summer led the way.”

Comparing estimates from January 1-March 15, 2004 with the same period in 2003, existing single-family home sales were down and condo sales were up by small amounts, according to the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors Multiple Listing Service. However, often numbers do not tell the whole story.

Phil Cox, Broker-in-Charge with Resort Vacation Services has seen sales take off just in the past seven to ten days. "You think the market's going to level off," Cox said, “and it just kicks into the next gear. From everything I've heard, our real estate agents are probably the busiest they've ever been!"

In some cases, condo prices are still low.
