There's no place in South Carolina quite like Myrtle Beach! A unique combination of laid-back and high-energy, of small-town familiarity and big city sophistication! Myrtle Beach is eclectic to the extreme. It's safe to say that no matter your style or inclination, Myrtle Beach will fit like a glove.
This spring and summer, many tourists will discover
new and improved roads in the Grand Strand!
To help familiarize our visitors with the new road systems, an insert will run from now through July 13 in newspapers such as The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The insert will be delivered to nearly 2.7 million households. The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce also will mail a four-page brochure in late May to nearly 2 million households in western North Carolina and Charlotte, N.C. - a quarter of the state's population. The chamber hopes the $180,000 campaign, which includes $80,000 from businesses participating in the cooperative ads, will ease tourists' frustrations.

Tourists who use Internet sites such as Mapquest.com or Expedia.com won't always find specific mention of Veterans Highway (SC 22), an alternative route to the typically congested U.S. 501. SC 22 appears on maps on Mapquest but isn't always listed in the printed directions. Expedia.com doesn't show it on its maps, much less mention the 2-year-old road in directions. Though popular, those and other Internet-based map sites don't always offer the most common routes.

"Our real goal is to educate," said Diana Greene, Marketing Vice President of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Myrtle Beach new roads include the following:

Veterans highway (SC 22) now links US 501 west of Conway and US 17 north of Myrtle Beach. The Carolina Bays Parkway (SC 31) connects SC 9 to US 501. Harrelson Blvd. provides easy access to Myrtle Beach International Airport. The Robert Grissom Parkway offers an alternative passage through central Myrtle Beach. Extensive improvements have been made to US 501 and SC 544. A new map is available. CLICK HERE!
